Industry Wales, which supports the growth of engineering, manufacturing and technology businesses, is delighted to be leading the Business Innovation and Tourism Escalator Scheme (BITES) for the food and drinks sector in Wales, on behalf of the Welsh Government.

The BITES project will involve working with various industry partners over a period of time, to develop system research and demonstrator cells to support the growth of digitally connected supply chains, feeding information to Artificial Intelligence systems. This use of technology will enable manufacturers to grow and sustain their businesses in today’s competitive world, with the hope of inspiring others to do the same.

One of the businesses that Industry Wales is working with through the BITES project is Hensol Castle Distillery, South Wales’ first full scale gin distillery, visitor experience, gin school and bottling plant, located in the cellars of Hensol Castle.

As part of this project, Industry Wales is partnering with Walden & Phillips, a manufacturing engineering business, who will be installing data points for data gathering at various points along the product line at Hensol Castle Distillery.

Walden & Phillips will develop various hardware and software solutions, including a data node, quality station and screens and tablets, that enable Hensol Castle Distillery to make informed decisions a lot faster than previously, as well as learn more about their current processes and what can be done to enhance productivity.

Industry Wales Chair, James Davies, said “The BITES project is a really exciting opportunity for food and drink businesses here in Wales. We find ourselves in a very competitive world and in order to get ahead of the curve, businesses need to consider and adopt technology and automation. By understanding what businesses want, we can get an idea of the data we need to access and what automation is needed to add value.

Hensol Castle Distillery has had an existing line for a long period of time but now want to maximise what they currently do. The data collected through the installed technology will help them explore their current processes, and also what decisions they could make to improve the competitiveness and productivity of the business itself. This project will take place over a number of months and we are really looking forward to seeing how the business benefits in the short and long term.”

Chris Leeke, Managing Director at Hensol Castle Distillery, said “We’re very excited to be working with the Industry Wales team to help us improve the use of technology and data to drive production efficiencies in our manufacturing facility.  With cost inflation affecting all sectors improving productivity and reducing wastage is essential to all businesses in a competitive environment and we are delighted to have been given the opportunity by Industry Wales and Welsh Government to be a part of this very exciting BITES project”.

Diwydiant Cymru Partneriaid â Distyllfa Castell Hensol ar rhan o brosiect BITES

Mae Diwydiant Cymru, sy’n cefnogi tyfiant busnesau peirianneg, gweithgynhyrch a thechnoleg, yn falch iawn o fod yn arwain y Cynnllun Cynnydd Busnes Arlosedd A Thwristiaeth (BITES) ar gyfer y sector bwyd a diod yng Nhymru, ar ran Llywodraeth Cymru.

Fydd yr brosiect BITES yn cynnwys gyda nifer o phartneriaid amrywiol yn y diwydiant dros gyfnod o amser i ddatblygu ymchwil system a chelloedd arddangos i gefnogi tyfiant cadwyni cyflenwi sydd wedi’u cysylltu’n ddigidol, gan fwydo gwybodaeth i systemau Deallusrwydd Artififfisial. Bydd y defnydd hwn o dechnoleg yn galluogu gweithgynhyrchwyr i dyfu a chunnal eu busnesau yn y byd cystadleuol heddiw, gyda’r gobaith o yrbrydoli eraill i wneud yr un peth.

Un o’r busnessau fydd Diwydiant Cymru yn gweithio â trwy yr brosiect BITES yw Distyllfa Castell Hensol, distyllfa gin raddfa lawn gyntaf De Cymru, profiad ymwelwyr, ysgol gin a ffatri botelu, sydd wedi’i lleoli yn seleri Castell Hensol.

Fel rhan o’r brosiect, mae Diwydiant Cymru yn partneru gyda Walden & Phillips, busnes peirianneg gweithgynhyrchu, a fydd yn gosod pwyntiau data ar gyfer casglu data mewn fannau gwahanol ar hyd y llinell gynnyrch yn Distyllfa Castell Hensol.

Bydd Walden & Phillips yn creu datrysiadau caledwedd a meddalwedd amrywiol, gan gynnwys nod data, gorsaf ansawdd a sgriniau a tabledi, sy’n galluogi Distyllfa Castell Hensol i wneud penderfyniadau gwybodus yn fwy cyflym nag o’r blaen, yn o gystal â dysgu mwy am eu prosesau presennol ac beth ellir cael ei wneud i wella cynhyrchiant.

Dywedodd Cadeirydd Diwydiant Cymru, James Davies, “Mae’r brosiect BITES yn cyfle cyffroes i’r busnesau bwyd a diod yma yng Nghymru. Rydym yn weld ein hunain mewn byd cystadleuol iawn, ac er mwyn mynd ar y blaem, mae angen i busnesau ystyried a mabwsiadu technoleg ac awtomeiddio. Trwy deall be mae busnesau eisiau, gallwn ni gael syniad o’r data sydd angen i cael mynediad ato a pa awtomeiddio sydd ei angen i ychwanegu gwerth.

Mae Distyllfa Castell Hensol wedi bod yn rhedeg ers amser maith ond maent y bellach am wneud y gorau o beth maent yn wneud ar hyn o bryd. Bydd y data a gesglir drwy’r dechnoleg sydd wedi’i gosod yn yn ei helpu i archwylio eu prosesau presennol, a hefyd pa benderfyniadau y gallent ei gwneud i gwella cystadleurwydd a chynhyrchiant y busnes ei hun. Bydd y prosiect hwn yn cael ei gynna dros yr fisoedd i ddod ac rydym yn edrych ymalen i weld sut mae’r busnes yn elwa yn y tymor byr a’r hir dymor”.

Chris Leeke, Rheolwr Gyfarwyddwr Hensol Castle Distillery, dywedodd “Rydym yn cyffrous I fod yn weithio gyda thîm Diwydiant Cymru i helpu ni wella yr defnydd o dechnoleg ag data I ysgogi effeithlonrwydd cynhyrchu yn ein cyfleuster gweithgynhyrchu. Gyda’r chwyddiant costau yn effeithio ar bob sector, mae gwella cynhyrchiant a lleihau gwastraff yn hanfodol i bob busnes mewn amgylchedd cystadleuol, ac rydym yn falch iawn o fod wedi cael y cyfle gan Ddiwydiant Cymru a Llywodraeth Cymru i fod yn rhan o’r prosiect BITES”.
